Do you ever wonder what “Newborn Casting Call” or “Newborn Model Needed” really means? You see it plastered all over photographers pages but do you know what it means or what’s involved? Well I’m here to tell you and you’ll probably think…”Oh, is that all?” If you’re reading this then you probably already know that I teach newborn photography to other photographers around the world. It’s a hectic, fun, fulfilling, exhausting, exciting and sweaty job that I take very seriously. So when you see “Newborn Casting Call” that simply means that I need babies to help me teach others what I do. I do not need a head shot of your newborn nor do I really need to know what he or she looks like because, duh, all babies are beautiful! The only requirement is that they are 5-21 days old….that’s it! We normally only keep you there for about 3 hours but your session is free and you receive around 5 beautiful high resolution digital images for your time.  Now, some babies don’t always cooperate on the day of their first “model shoot” and that’s okay BUT….there are some babies, like Lilah below, that are like putty in my hands and they just sleep the entire time. I like to refer to these newborns as Rock Stars because without them it’s very hard to get through all that I have to teach my students.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s important for my attendees to see how I handle the “fussy” baby so it’s good to have a mixture of both.

Unlike my paying clients, my model babies don’t get to customize their session because they are there so that I can teach specific poses and setups. So if your new baby has an older sibling or if you want family pictures then it’s best to book a “real” session with me or another photographer. My booked clients are my top priority so your baby’s modeling images can take longer to receive. They are sent via drop box and you can download them to your computer and print anywhere but I suggest mpix.com for the best color and quality.

I’ve photographed hundreds, gosh maybe closer to a thousand newborns and there are some that I just can’t forget because they were just so sweet and sleepy. The ones that make you sigh and almost want another:)

So one that really sticks out recently is gorgeous little Lilah…sigh

Reviews:

I recently had the privilege of attending a workshop with the amazing Amy of Dewdrops Photography. Amy held nothing back and answered all my questions, no matter what. She was down-to-earth and easy going and kept the environment laid back and fun the whole day. I was able to learn so much by observing her, sometimes hovering right over her shoulder, but she didn’t mind, she just kept right along showing me how she works her magic. I was amazed by her confidence with handling not only the precious babies, but with the parents.

Amy is an amazing mentor. And not only that, but she is willing to still answer my questions even after the workshop to help me to be the best photographer I can be. I just hope I can make her proud.

I have met other photographers in the past who let the success of their business get to their head, but not Amy. She was so humble and sweet and treated me like we had known each other forever even though minutes before we were strangers. She truly is the best and I am so honored that I was able to work with her and that she saw enough potential in me to allow me to learn from her.

I promise, you will not be disappointed with Amy and her workshops. She is superb!

Thank you Amy for an amazing weekend and for teaching me everything and anything you could! Much love sister!

I hosted Amy McDaniel and Nicole Smith’s Dream Baby Workshop in March 2014. Having attended several workshops in the past, I thought I knew what to expect but I was BLOWN away at what these girls were able to deliver to their attendees. Nicole and Amy truly walked through (step by step) each aspect of their shooting and were able to give each attendee one on one time to go over their shots and critique. Now, one would think this is a pretty basic part of a workshop but attendees don’t always get good one on one time with the teachers – especially if the group is large. I was really impressed by how thorough they were with each photographer and you could just sense that they were invested in each person and really wanted to see them grow from the experience. The covered both the technical and the artistic side of shooting as well as took the group step by step through editing. I KNOW that the attendees left with a sense of accomplishment and arrived home determined to put their new found skills to good use! Last, photography is about so much more than good styling and shooting, it’s about the heart behind it. I LOVED that Amy has a group for her workshop and mentees where girls can ask continual questions and follow up to see progress. It’s such an active, amazing group of women and from that group there was even a prayer group specifically for photographers born. It’s SO refreshing to see photographers come together in a Christian way to support one another. If you are looking to get the best for your money (and SO MUCH MORE), I would highly recommend this experience to any newborn photographer! Jackie Cream n Cocoa Photography

I cannot tell you how awesome it was to spend the weekend learning from you. I had my first newborn session less than 24 hours after leaving workshop and I felt so empowered and excited to put into practice all that I learned. You are truly amazing and I am so thankful that you are willing to share your art and for the friendships created in Chicago. Worth every.penny.and.some!

The world of newborn photography is ever-so saturated and finding the impeccable package of fabulous posing plus amazing style and safety, can honestly be quite challenging in this competitive market. As someone that just started photography this fall, I found exactly what I needed to take my business and talents to the next level! This weekend, I had the opportunity to learn from Nicole Smith Photography and Dewdrops Photography by Amy McDaniel in an amazing workshop where both of these inspiring photographers combined and brought all of their secrets to the table to share….
If you are looking to grow as a newborn photographer and continue to keep things fresh, their workshop is where it’s at! Captured by Clay Photography

THANK YOU AMY for such an incredible experience and learning opportunity at your Cincinnati workshop with Nicole Smith Photography!!! I loved every second of it and learned an incredible amount of knowledge! I can not wait for my next session and feel completely at ease now about so many aspects of my business. You two were amazing instructors and our host (Jackie from Cream n Cocoa Photography) was incredibly accommodating and lovely! Had a great time, made new friends, took my work to the next level and got to practice. AMAZING!!! DULCE BABY photography

Amy, I cannot thank you enough for what you taught me at the workshop. I am so happy with the way my sessions have been turning out…especially on the beanbag poses. Using studio light has made such a tremendous difference in the outcome of my photos. I cannot wait to continue to learn and develop my new skills. Taking your workshop was by far the best investment I could have made at this point in my career. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I only wish I would have done it sooner!!

I couldn’t have picked a better workshop or group of ladies to spend the weekend with. Not only are y’all wonderful photographers but you are both great teachers as well. Thank you for being so attentive and guiding me through all the steps to getting consistently great shots.
